People seem to have problems with ISO files and getting them burned to disc. Under Windows there is excellent freeware for the job. Here are a couple tools to try IF Deepburner, Nero, Roxio, etc does not seem to work for you: 1. http://www.imgburn.com/ - This guy puts out the most complete ISO image burning freeware for Windows. This software works very well, but has an interface that could scare a seasoned vet. Very powerful and has lots of options. 2. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads/burncdcc.zip - This is one simple and free ISO burner. Works great on my internal and external DVD+-RW burners under Windows. Under Linux, it is even easier: growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=klikit-ff-0.1-4.iso -- Execute this command from within the directory containing the ISO file Added 09-13-07 PS. Thanks PGTips91 for the bit about how to easily get to a terminal winthin a specific directory from within konqueror. I also neglected to mention that the growisofs command above be run as root or preceded by sudo. I hope it was obvious that the filename at the end can be replaced by any valid dvd ISO image file, and I only used the klikit ISO file as an example.

Excellent tip.

Easiest way to "Execute this command from within the directory containing the ISO file" is to navigate to the folder in Konqueror, then choose ' Tools > Open Terminal'

MIght have to look in to this imgburn thing. Personally I have been using ISO Recorder, it is what I would prefer UI wise, no extra, right click the ISO, chose 'copy image to CD' or 'open with --> ISO Recorder' choose the drive you want to burn to and you are on your way. Does CD, does DVD, don't know about the other stuff. Later, Seeker

Came across this useful web site this morning : -- http://on-disk.com/request.phpFor those without DVD-RW or dial-up connections, this is a reasonably cheap alternative. You just order a special DVD and give the download URL.

That's pretty reasonable for a custom download and burn.

I have been trying to quit Winblows apps for good. I have been very successful burning ISO's with k3b.

It depends on the version of K3B. The latest version, on the Klikit LiveCD did a very good job burning a DVD for me.

What version of k3b do you have? *spire uses old libraries like Xandros does, I might be able to get you a port of k3b that works for you.

linuxratty wrote: Not me..I get an error message and then it spits out the disk. Even if it is Freespire 1 it should have the growisofs command. You might try the terminal, as root, and from within the directory where you store the ISO file: growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=NameOf_ISO_file.iso The screen output will keep you informed of the progress of the burn and tell you when it completes. Let me know if you give it a try. It works well for me under Kubuntu 7.04.

I still have the open version of Freespire, 1.0.13 or 14 I forget which was which, on a system as it is the only distro that works well with my dual monitors and it handles the latest DVDs through k3b no problems.
